Did I get your attention. The title has absolutely nothing to do with any political climate, no sporting event, not a life altering thing.
The pulse of the country is quickening and it mostly has to do with holiday travel plans, shopping til you have no resources and way too much socializing.
What is it about the month of December that makes us dig our heals into bowls of mash potatoes and vats of gravy.
Why aren’t we feeling festive and giving all year long or at least quarterly!
What’s wrong with having a Green Christmas in July – turn the lights on, invite over friends, hand out a few gifts. Take the pressure off the month of December, I bet it would add years to your life. Some might argue – that’s a celebration before a Roughrider game. Not everything revolves around the Riders!
This weekend is filled with exceptional experiences. Government House has an event on this afternoon. Tomorrow at Wascana Park there will be a chance for the kids to contact Santa at 100 Navy Way – just off of Broad Street. Operation Radio Santa begins at 10 am at the HMCS Queen. There’s face painting, bouncy castles and kid’s stuff. There will be a cash BBQ.
Christmas tree lots will be buzzing and as the weather is warm, I expect there will be some open fires somewhere with hot cider and marshmallows. Okay, I’m beginning to see what makes this time of the year special.
Last night I was at the Legislative grounds to take in the lighting of the trees and building. There weren’t many people, but the excitement of the kids was impressive. They know something is up!!
Early darkness and the winter glow give homes a cozy look when all the lights are on. Stop by Candy Cane Lane off of 7th Avenue North and Champ Crescent. Three hundred homes lit up should help you get in the spirit.
And personally, I would invite you to Prairie Winds Christmas Spectacular at 7 Sunday night at Lakeview United Church 3200 McCallum Avenue. There is also a performance from the Bob Mossing School of Music at 2pm on Sunday – same location.
Remember there is another pay day just around the corner!
