Farmers are looking for a lot of moisture to kick off the spring and the only way to get it is to get a lot of snow right now. Businesses that sell winter gear or winter sporting equipment are having another slow winter, their third in a row if my math serves me correctly. People who love to go out and ski or snowmobile are hoping for a lot more snow as well. I haven’t been an outdoor winter person since I was a kid and would think nothing of shoveling the snow off an entire street in -30 weather just so we could play some street hockey. Those days are long gone. I wish I enjoyed being outdoors during the winter. It would sure make the season go by a lot quicker.
There is no such thing as a weather forecast that pleases everybody. I guess it gives us something to complain about when it’s not the type of weather we like. I still remember one of my high school teachers, Mrs. Majors, telling us that if we were going to complain about anything, it might as well be about the weather. Her theory was that you should never complain about something you have the power to change. True enough. I had no idea what she was talking about way back then, but I sure do now.
The bad news for those who hate winter? It isn’t even here yet. The Winter Solstice arrives next Thursday morning at 10:27. The good news? The days start getting longer after that!
