The Regina Pats continue to struggle as the WHL Christmas break draws closer.
Regina is now 1-3 on a five-game homestand after a 4-3 loss to the Saskatoon Blades in overtime on Friday night.
The Pats forced overtime late in the 3rd when Jake Leschyshyn batted a rebound past Nolan Maier at the 15:48 mark, but in overtime Evan Fiala found a loose puck in the crease and with two Pats watching flipped it over Tyler Brown to give the Blades the two points.
Saskatoon is now 14-16-2-1 on the season and close to within four points of the Pats ( 16-15-3-0) for the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Regina will finish the homestand off Saturday against Lethbridge before finishing the first half of the season in Saskatoon Sunday. 620 CKRM will have Saturday’s game at 7 and Sunday’s game starting at 4.
Before the game, the team learned they would get Josh Mahura back from the Canadian World Junior Camp, but they wouldn’t be getting Sam Steel. Mahura was one of the final cuts for Team Canada while Steel cracked the 22-man roster that will play for gold at the 2018 World Juniors in Buffalo starting Boxing Day.
