A Saskatchewan travel agent who was accused of taking customers’ money for flights and hotels that were never booked has pleaded guilty to fraud.
Leslie Glauser, the owner of T and T Travel in Kindersley, entered the plea on Tuesday in a Kindersley courtroom.
Matthew Barton, with the Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority, says when choosing a travel agent, read customer reviews and do your homework.
He also says when buying a trip with a travel agent, pay with a credit card because credit card companies have insurance and you can be re-imbursed.
“Often what’s happening is it’s not hundreds of dollars, it’s thousands or tens-of-thousands of dollars,” Barton said. “Especially for big groups. So that’s why we advise to pay with a credit card because being out that kind of money can really hurt.”
Glauser had been charged earlier this year with one count of fraud over five-thousand dollars after the R-C-M-P received more than 250 complaints about her business.
