Cannabis legalization was a topic Mayor Michael Fougere touched on after Regina City council Monday night.
The topic was also brought up during the Big City Mayor’s Caucus, where it was mutually agreed Canadian Municipalities will need funding from marijuana sales in order to properly enforce the laws put in place.
Fougere says the city would like more time to make important decisions.
“July 1st is an artificial deadline which has been imposed by the Federal Government.” Fougere said. “But in order to get it right, we need to put our own licencing in place. The police need to be trained and ready. They need to use roadside equipment for testing, we need to do our zoning. We need time.”
Marijuana legalization is set for Canada Day, 2018.
