Yesterday on my way home from work I approached the intersection of Sask. Drive and Albert Street. There are two lanes that go straight across Albert and both of them had 3 cars waiting for a green light. In one of the lanes there was another car waiting as well, but this car was about 3 car lengths behind the rest. I know you don’t want to pull up too close to the car in front of you, but this seemed to be a little drastic. As I pulled up beside the car I noticed a young lady behind the wheel glued to her cellphone and texting away. I guess I should have guessed.
In November there were more than 650 tickets handed out for distracted driving. According to SGI that was a record. This law has been in effect for a while now and it’s just getting worse. It certainly must be baffling for those who sit in a room and try to figure out what repercussions will be needed to finally make people stop texting and driving.
Firing squad? Life in prison? Humongous fines? Forced to watch endless episodes of Corner Gas?
Maybe I was a little too quick to dismiss the notion of “bus cops” after all.
