This past weekend Brett Kissel kicked off his Canada wide “We Were That Song” tour in his home province of Alberta with fellow Albertan Dan Davidson. Their first three shows were all in Calgary, tonight (Jan 15) they’re in Medicine Hat, and they’ll find their way to Regina on January 24th. Most would probably shiver at the fact that a nation wide tour is happening in the dead of winter in Canada, but not Kissel.
“I’m not sure how Dan (Davidson) feels about it, but I love it because I think people need a reason to go out and party in these cold winter months and for me, nothing make me happier than just getting out on the road no matter what month it is, not matter what part of the world we’re travelling in. Just getting the chance to get out and tour has been a blast,” smiled Kissel.
Last month Kissel released the album “We Were That Song” with the title track being the first single. Kissel has released another song for the album entitled “Anthem,” which tells the story and passion of a young couple in love.
“Anthem and the lyrics are very special, like you said about a young couple falling in love, and some really interesting ways to kind of profess that love from character to the other,” stated Kissel.
He said when they were putting the album together they wanted to find away to channel all of the energy of their live shows into the production of the new song and their album.
“We actually performed this song at night time, we performed this song kind of at the end of the studio day so that we had that energy the way we would on stage, so the way the recording is very similar to the way we would do it live.”
So, when did Kissel realize his now wife was his anthem?
“The very first time I laid eyes on her,” gushed Kissel, who’s now been married to Cecilia for nearly seven years.
Brett Kissel and Dan Davidson will play the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina on January 24th. Some tickets are still available online at https://www.conexusartscentre.ca/events.
