Yesterday after work Max and I headed over to the vet. I checked his vaccination schedule and it was time to go in and get updated on all of his shots and yesterday seemed as good a day as any. If the office wasn’t busy, it should be an in and out kind of appointment. On my drive home everyday I pass the vet clinic and yesterday I noticed the parking lot was nearly empty. Great. The secret was to get back there as quickly as possible.
Whenever I get home from work I immediately put on a pair of sweats and head to the back door to let Max out to do his business. If I don’t get changed, he knows something’s up, which was the case yesterday. He didn’t want to go outside because he knew we were going somewhere. I finally had to go out with him and stand there to make sure he tinkled.
After we got back in the house he went straight for his leash that we have hanging in the hall closet. This guy’s no dummy. He knows the drill.
When we got to the clinic I was very happy to see only one other person waiting with their pet. I really don’t enjoy sitting around for an hour waiting to see the vet. I don’t think Max enjoys it either.
Within 10 minutes Max was on the scale for his weigh-in. He actually weighed 1 Kg. less than his last visit and for the first time the vet didn’t make me feel like the worst pet owner ever. Usually I get the shifty-eye look followed by, “Hmm. I see Max seems to be have gained a little weight since his last visit.” Not yesterday!
After some poking and prodding and getting his temperature taken, Max got a clean bill of health. Then came the needles. No problem there either. I also booked Max in to get his nails clipped. I hate clipping his nails. I’m so afraid I’ll clip too far down the nail and hurt him. Might as well pay the $10 and let the pros handle it, right?
We were in and out with 25 minutes. Now, that’s my kind of appointment.
