Saturday morning I was up bright and early and ready to hit the road to Moose Jaw for an on-location broadcast from Moose Jaw RV and Marine. All I was worried about was the condition of the highway. When I let Max out for his early morning tinkle I stuck my head out the door to assess the weather situation. It looked like it was going to be a nice day to drive to the Friendly City.
I was meeting Ballsy, best known to our listeners for his great work on the Rider broadcasts, at the station at about 7:15. He was broadcasting as well from the same location, so we decided to travel together.
My first stop on the way to the station was at McDonald’s to grab a couple of breakfast wraps for myself and the morning news guy, David Boles.
We arrived in Moose Jaw with plenty of time to spare. After I made sure my equipment was up and running it was time to meet the crew. Moose Jaw and RV is one of our great sponsors on the Flea Market, so I’ve talked to the owners many times, but I had never met any of them. Doug and Pat, along with their daughter Michelle, run a great show over there. We had a lot of fun together. Great people.
I also ran into a few people I hadn’t seen in quite a while, including an old friend, Barry Vice. Barry and I worked together at Q-91 radio in Drumheller more than 30 years ago. Unfortunately, Barry showed up right at the end of my broadcast, so we didn’t have as much time as we would have liked to reminisce, but we made a promise to get together somewhere down the road. I hope we do.
All in all, it was a great day in Moose Jaw. It definitely is a friendly city.
