A major conference is coming to Regina in late May.
University of Regina President Doctor Vianne Timmons says The 2018 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences they will host is a huge one.
“It will be the largest conference ever held in the City of Regina,” Timmons says. “We’re expecting between 7,000 to 8,000 participants.”
Timmons says this will be a great chance to showcase the U of R to the country and around the world and enhance what is already a positive image of the facility.
Timmons adds most of what will be happening will be at the U of R, but the whole city will benefit in some fashion.
“Most of it will be happening at the University, but the downtown will be filled with the Congress attendees,” Timmons says. “We really want to work with our downtown businesses, and we would like to see our community open their arms and welcome Congress attendees.”
It is believed the conference will result in an economic spin-off of around 8 million dollars.
Like it is with other events Regina puts on, volunteers will be needed with Timmons estimating around 500 or so will be needed in a variety of roles for the conference which runs May 26-June 1.
