The chief provincial insurance company in Saskatchewan is smacking down drivers without seatbelts this month.
Well, not literally.
SGI spokesperson Tyler McMurchy says it’s important for them to let motorists just how critically important it is to drive with a seatbelt on.
“How is this still a thing?,” he asks. “Every month, when we report the Traffic Safety Spotlight results, seatbelt offences are included in that.”
“Every month we see several hundred people getting ticketed for seatbelts,” said McMurchy.
“It just doesn’t make a lot of sense to us.”
To further promote the message, McMurchy says they’ve found an interesting way to do so. Throughout February, SGI will be tweeting out messages with a GIF of WWE wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
“I wasn’t going far.” — The majority of collisions happen within a few kilometres of home, because that’s where you are driving most of the time. #SeatbeltExcuseSmackdown #BuckleUp pic.twitter.com/ORxw4rEnE4

McMurchy says this campaign highlights the silly excuse given for driving without a seatbelt and why there’s no acceptable excuse for doing so.
