An alcohol free option for football fans wanting to catch Sunday’s Super Bowl is now available in Regina.
The Sober Bowl, has taken place in New York, Houston and Minneapolis in previous years, and is a way for football fans to watch the big game without the presence of alcohol.
Rod Pedersen, organizer of the event and play by play voice for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, said this is the first Sober Bowl to take place in Canada.
“Yeah it’s the first one in Canada, I’m pretty honored to be bringing it to Canada, and all it is is a sober Super Bowl party, that’s pretty much it,” Pedersen said.
“It’s a ticketed event, but proceeds are going to Oxford House of Regina Sober Living Community. Like I’ve said I don’t drink anymore, so we wanted to have a sober Super Bowl party in Canada and this is it,” Pedersen said.
The party will be at Tony Roma’s on south Albert Street, a place Pedersen said was very supportive of the idea.
“They’ve got a connection to recovery, when I asked them if we could have this event there they were all over it. It’s gone over very well, especially the last couple of days people are really talking about it,” said Pedersen.
A limited number of tickets are available by emailing Pedersen directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
