The weekend is upon us once again and we finally get some relief from this deep freeze we’ve been stuck in. Warmer temps are expected this weekend and next and we may get some much needed snow on Monday!
Is it safe to eat snow? I think we all have eaten the stuff. After all we are Canadian and we all quickly figured out yellow snow does mean it tastes like lemons! Maybe that was just A hard lesson for me? A new Romanian study says snow is safe to eat, but only for up to two days after the snow fall. They did various studies studies in the lab at different winter temps and discovered that after two days there is a significant build up of bacteria. While they don’t recommend eating snow, they do concede it’s safe right after the snow fall. With that in mind, it’s a complete buffet in Alberta right now!
If you are headed west to Alberta today (Feb 9) drive carefully as the province continues to dig out. Approximately 14 cm fell in Calgary and as much as 20 cm fell in other areas of the province. In other words, a good weekend to stay home and watch the winter games from South Korea. Have an excellent weekend!
