Celebrating the 100th year of the Regina Pats is the main focus of what is a big weekend for the Regina Pats
The celebrations begin Friday night with a gala dinner followed by an NHL alumni game on Saturday and a regular season WHL game Sunday against the rival Moose Jaw Warriors.
The two hockey games were to be outdoors at Mosaic Stadium, but a decision was made to cancel those plans for a variety of reasons.
Pats media relations director Phil Andrews says that decision should not take away from what will be a great weekend.
“It was a great idea to want to have some outdoors game,” Pats director of media relations and play-by-play man Phil Andrews said. “Sometimes, great ideas don’t work out, but it’s an opportunity to do it inside in what will be a more intimate atmosphere. I think it will be a great three days.
As mentioned, a gala goes tonight with proceeds going to the newly established Regina Pats Community Foundation.
That foundation, which currently manages the 50/50 at all home games, is being created to support youth initiatives in Regina and help the scholarship program available to all Pats players.
