Every now and then I hear that bone chilling, mind numbing expression “there’s nothing to do here.” Regina is a city of 215 thousand and growing rapidly so there is ALWAYS something going on and something to do. One just has has to look, listen, and watch!
This long weekend is no exception! Regina is the place to be this long weekend thanks to organizations like the Regina Pats and Waskimo! Starting Saturday morning at 10 I’ll be on location at Capital GM for their big sales event. Later that afternoon, around 1, the legendary Richie Hall will be signing/selling his new book at the dealership. Saturday afternoon at 3 the celebrity all star classic gets underway featuring many NHL greats like Mark Howe, Jock Callender, Wendel Clark, Mike Keane, and several others. Tickets are only $25 for the game and can be found at http://reginapats.com. For any parent who has kids in hockey, this will be one those inspiring games to watch. It’ll lift the spirits and hopefully inspire hockey kids to see their idols up close.
Rogers Hometown Hockey will also be broadcasting from downtown Regina Saturday and Sunday. Events run from noon to 6 p.m. each day and feature autograph sessions, hockey circus shows, live music from Justin LaBrash on Saturday and Jess Moskaluke on Sunday.
The biggest WHL rivalry continues throughout the weekend between the Pats and the Warriors with games set Friday night and Sunday afternoon at the Brandt Centre. Throughout all of this, Waskimo will be preparing for Monday activities. Waskimo Winter Festival activities are happening inside the Conexus Arts Centre and outside on Wascana Lake. Everything gets underway at noon with face painting, music, improv, and more inside. 620 CKRM’s Ray Alan will be broadcasting his show from the Conexus Monday morning/afternoon. Activities also start at noon outside including the horse-drawn sleigh rides sponsored by 620 CKRM.
So, there you go! What a busy, fun weekend ahead of us. Get out there and have fun!
