A career night from Kyanna Giles has the U of R Cougar women’s basketball team one step closer to a conference championship.
The 2nd year player from Winnipeg had 28 points as Regina held off a pesky UBC crew to win Game 2 of their best-of-three series 71-62 to eliminate the Thunderbirds and move into a Canada West semi-final at home next weekend against either Calgary or Victoria.
Cougars Head Coach Dave Taylor said it was a real test of character for his team who went into the weekend as the number two ranked team in Canada.
“There were things about our game that I didn’t love, but we ultimately found a way to win.” Taylor said. “We were able to make plays down the stretch when we needed to, and I’m extremely happy we got this done in two games.
Regina will now wait for the winner of the Calgary-Victoria series with the team that emerges from that best-of-three being at the CKHS next Thursday night for Game 1 in a 7 o’clock start.
