The spirit of a Regina school will live forever at the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon which is getting built.
St. Dominic Savio School embraced a fund-raising challenge as a series of events resulted in over $10,000 being generated for the hospital. As a result, a special plaque will be placed inside the facility to commemorate the accomplishment.
St. Dominic teacher Dawn Jones said was originally something that started as pure one classroom initiative, but quickly grew into something much bigger.
“All the teachers came on board, I didn’t actually go around and say ‘Hey, could you do this for the hospital?’ They said ‘we’re gonna do a hot chocolate sale. It just ballooned into something amazing”, she said. “And here we are a year later presenting a check for $10,330!”
In all, it took 18 various fundraisers to raise the money. Jones joked they only needed one or two more to have the funds to facilitate a bus trip to Saskatoon to see the plaque at the hospital when it opens.
