Yesterday morning after my shift, one of my co-workers from one of the other radio stations came up and asked me if I remembered to unplug my vehicle before coming into work. “Yes,” I replied meekly, realizing that the only reason he was asking was because I probably had an extension cord hanging beneath my vehicle. “Are you sure? It doesn’t look like you did.” I softly muttered an expletive under my breath and made my way to the street where I was parked. Sure enough, there it was, all six feet of it!
I actually use two extension cords running from the house to my vehicle. The reason I use a short cord on the end that plugs into my vehicle is because if I do forget to unplug the darn thing, that short cord will break away from the other cord instead of yanking itself out of the socket on the house. There is a method to my madness. I sure am glad I did that, otherwise I might have gone through 6 or 7 cords this winter.
At about 12:30 my neighbour from across the street came over and told me that my extension cord was halfway out on the street when he went to work in the morning, so he gathered it up and put it back on our front lawn. He thought my wife might had forgotten to unplug her vehicle. For a brief moment I had the opportunity to throw her under the bus, but I thought better of it and admitted no, it wasn’t her, I was the idiot.
Knowing the weather was taking a turn for the better over the course of the next few days, when I got home I decided to leave that darn vehicle unplugged.
I wasn’t taking any chances coming into work this morning.
