Major League Baseball’s first full time Canadian umpire in almost 20 years will fill an important role.
Stu Scheurwater will fill the hole left by Mark Wegner, who takes over the MLB’s role as crew chief, a spot vacated by the recently retired Dale Scott.
The 34 year old Scheurwater, a Regina native, was hired in 2017 for the job. He will become the first full time Canadian umpire since 2001.
Scheurwater has been a minor league umpire since 2007 and has been behind the plate for over 200 big league games since 2013 as a call up.
