Well, it’s come to this. I didn’t think I’d ever have to write about cucumbers, but I am! For some odd reason I’ve made the decision to start eating “better.” So, why not start with cucumbers! I learned cucumbers apparently help ease anxiety and stress and are full of B Vitamins. Now, ever try and peel those things?
This goes back a few years to the first time I brought a cucumber home but the memories came flooding back this week as I started peeling it for my chicken caesar wrap I was attempting to construct. It was a total disaster with chicken and tomatoes falling out every where, but that’s another story for another day. Anyway, back to the cucumber and my original question. Ever try and peel a cucumber? I thought it was simple…until I tried it. It started off with me gently placing the knife on the cucumber only to see it quickly slice right to the middle with the piece falling to the counter. I have now lost half of my cucumber and nothing peeled yet.
I started on the other side. Once again the knife slipped and this time it nicked my finger. It wasn’t a bad cut…but a cut nonetheless. I now had a mangled cucumber and finger that was slightly bleeding. The first half of the cucumber is now a complete write-off. The score now is cucumber 2, Cody 0. It was at this point when I realized why not just eat the cucumber peel and all?
So, after doing battle with cucumber peels I’m very pro-cucumber peel mostly for my safety and for fingers that remain uncut! To this day, mostly for safety reasons for me and others, I do not peel cucumbers.
Which do you prefer? Peeled or unpeeled cucumbers?
