Ben Hebert did not come back with a medal from the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang much to the disappointment of curling fans from across Canada who were expecting not only a medal from the Kevin Koe team and the Rachel Homan squad.
Hebert, who was the lead on the Koe team, is in Regina this weekend as the Tim Hortons Brier starts. During an appearance Friday on 620 CKRM’s Sportscage, he told Rod Pedersen that not being in the Brier is fine after being at the Olympics and that he is happy to watch after the rink accomplished its goal to get to the Olympics.
“The Olympics were an amazing event. It was disappointing for us not to win a medal because we had planned on that, but it was a great experience, we saw a ton of events. It’s the greatest show on earth, but we were there with our families and it was great to go again. Hebert said. “It was a tough pill to swallow. We were prepared, but when we got out there we just didn’t have our best game. In the game against the Americans, we were disappointed because we never lose to them and if you can’t beat them, you don’t deserve the medal. Full credit to them for doing what they did and going on to win gold.”
As for the Brier itself, Hebert is expecting a very competitive week of curling with his predictions for playoff teams being Brad Jacobs, Brad Gushue, Reid Carruthers and Mike McEwen.
