History was made Monday morning, as Brad Gushue became the all-time winningest skip in Tim Hortons Brier history.
Gushue won his morning game against the Northwest Territories 8-4, with that being his 114th win all-time as a skip.
Gushue talks about the feeling of breaking the record.
“I didn’t know coming in to be honest; after we won the 113, people brought it up that if we win a game (Monday), I’ll set a record,” Gushue says. “I was kind of a little bit surprised by it, I knew I was kind of in the ball park coming here but it wasn’t in the fore-front of my mind.”
Gushue reflected on passing two legends of the game for the record.
“You think about who I passed, which was cool for me because I looked up to Russ (Howard) and Kevin (Martin),” Gushue says. “I idolized them as a junior curler starting to play, and I was fortunate to play with both of them in some events. Obviously with Russ in the Olympics and Kevin in the Olympic trials, so to pass those two guys, it’s pretty cool.”
The Team Canada rink then defeated team Wild Card in the evening draw 7-5 for Gushue’s 115th win all-time.
