The Saskatchewan government has approved a new recycling program for agricultural grain bags.
Agriculture minister Lyle Stewart says 20 grain bag collection sites will be set up for recycling to avoid improper disposal.
For the last six years, a pilot recycling program collected 42 hundred tons of material, equal to 28 thousand grain bags.
The new program includes an environmental handling fee of 25 cents per kilogram, which will be paid at point of purchase starting this November 1st.
The recycling program will be operated by Cleanfarms, a non-profit environmental stewardship organization.
