Toys “R’ Us Canada says work is being done in the U-S that would keep the company’s 82 stores in Canada including the ones in Regina and Saskatoon.
The statement from the company comes on the same day its U.S parent was to appear in court looking to close all of its stores in the U-S totalling more than 700 which would throw around 30,000 people out of work.
The statement from the company says “Toys “R” Us Canada’s business is managed in Canada, operates autonomously from U.S. operations, and continues to be a stable and profitable market leader in Canada.
The Canadian Toys “R” Us business has said it remains committed to serving its customers at its 82 stores across Canada and e-commerce site, which remain open for business.
The Canadian division filed for creditor protection in September but said it had financing commitments to ensure normal operations throughout the proceedings and now plans to forge ahead under a new owner.
