MP’s will hear from railways, grain companies and farmers later on Monday as the Standing Committee on Agriculture holds a special session.
There will be a dozen presentations about the current grain backlog.
Glaslyn area farmer Daryl Fransoo will speak on behalf of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association.
He says the biggest problems are on branch lines and areas furthest from port, such as northeast Saskatchewan.
“CN has picked up in the last week or two,” he said. “The whole issue there, and it’s what happened in 2014, is they pound the mainlines and any ranch elevator gets ignored and we can’t have that.”
Farm groups are pushing for passage of Bill C-49, which would help address substandard rail service.
