The Regina Pats were on Brandt Centre ice Monday to start getting ready for the playoffs.
On Friday night, the Pats will be in Swift Current to take on the Broncos in Game 1 of a best of 7 Eastern Conference quarter-final.
This past weekend, the two teams played a home-and-home to finish the regular season with Regina winning Friday night in a hard-fought 3-2 overtime contest with the Broncos winning Saturday in overtime by a score of 3-2.
Friday’s game at the Brandt Centre had a definite playoff feel to it with both teams trying to send a message in what was a spirited affair.
Defenceman Cale Fleury (pictured) thinks you can expect to see a lot more of that.
“Those last two games were ones that got us more excited for playoffs and having some success against them meant a lot for our confidence especially on Saturday when we didn’t dress a lot of our guys.
Fleury said. “I think this will be a series that will be very physical and one that will have two good teams going at it.”
Head Coach John Paddock isn’t sure what type of series to expect, but he feels discipline will be important.
“We took some stupid stick penalties on the weekend.” Paddock said. “That is something we have to clean up, but for the most part I liked the way they played this weekend. They were physical, they delivered some clean hits. These are two good teams battling one another.”
After playing the first two games in Swift Current, the series will head back to the Brandt Centre for Games 3 and 4 on Monday, March 26 and Wednesday, March 28. Tickets for those games go on sale at the Brandt Center ticket office Tuesday at noon.
