Well, I didn’t make it out to Assiniboia on Friday. I wanted to go, but Mother nature had other plans. I hummed and hawed until about 6 that morning when I decided it just wasn’t worth the risk. In all of my years broadcasting that lottery, that’s only the second time I’ve had to call things off due to weather. I’m glad I did. Another radio personality from Saskatoon that I was broadcasting with wasn’t able to make his trip back home until Saturday morning. He was supposed to leave Friday evening. Oh well, better to be safe than sorry.
I still have two more trips to make in April and again in May. Actually, I have three trips to make. I’ll be heading out there this morning after work to pick up all of my broadcast equipment that was left high and dry with my absence on Friday.
Saturday evening I did something I haven’t done very much of over the last few years. I actually watched a hockey game from start to finish, as my Maple Leafs tied a franchise record with their 45 win of the season. What made that so remarkable is that our granddaughters were spending the weekend with us. Usually we end up watching some movies or kids programming, but grandma kept the girls busy making arts and crafts for Easter, while I watched hockey. Everybody was happy!
Next up on the sports agenda? Baseball, of course. The Blue Jays open up their season on the road this Thursday afternoon in New York and I’ll be on the couch anxiously awaiting the first pitch. No kids around and my wife will be at work.
