Regina residents were able to enjoy the 19th annual family day in recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The event was put on by the Saskatchewan Association on Human rights and Spring free from Racism, which gave multicultural performers an opportunity to show off their performances to those in attendance.
President of Spring free from Racism Barb Dedi says there was a wide array of culture on display this year.
“That’s our goal, is to bring as many cultures in the room at one time, and that’s why we have non-stop cultural entertainment from 12:00-7:35,” Dedi says. “It was a hard time fitting everybody in because each year, there’s more and more groups that want to participate in it.”
Dedi says feedback from those who attended was very positive.
“From what I hear from people, we’ve had no complaints. We’ve only had people saying how great it was and how some people didn’t know about it, and I’m telling people this is our 19th year,” Dedi says. “Some people are saying ‘how come I didn’t know about it?’ And want to come back next year.”
Plans are in the works to make next year`s event even bigger than this year according to Dedi, with the 20th anniversary taking place in 2019
