It has been quite the month for Saskatoon curler Kirk Muyres.
Muyres started the month off as the third for Saskatchewan’s entry at the Tim Hortons Brier for Steve Laycock. The team announced they were breaking up after the Brier concluded with Muyres and his brother Dallan then joining up with Dan and Kevin Marsh forming a new rink moving forward.
On Sunday, Muyres and Laura Crocker of Newfoundland won the Canadian Mixed Doubles title in Leduc, Alberta. They beat Kadriana Sahaidak and Colton Lott in the final by a score of 8-7. To get to the final, the two had to beat defending champs Joanne Courtney and Reid Carruthers in the semi-final. In the quarterfinal, they defeated the team of Jennifer Jones and Brent Laing.
Muyres was taking the spot of Geoff Walker. He is curling with Brad Gushue at the men’s worlds in Las Vegas.
The duo will represent Canada at the Worlds in Sweden later this month.
