The town of Lafleche isn’t the winner of Kraft Hockeyville 2018.
But the towns mayor couldn’t be happier.
Carmen Ellis said for them to come as close as they were to being the first Saskatchewan community to be named Kraft Hockeyville was an exciting and impressive feat.
“That was the big thing we were trying to get out to everyone in Saskatchewan, please vote,” she recalled. “It’s tough for Saskatchewan to win.”

Ellis says the bid did two special things: get them $25,000 in arena upgrades and $10,000 for hockey equipment purchases.
But , the most powerful part was the unity it inspired.
“The volunteerism in small communities is just unbelievable compared to the big cities,” she noted. “Everyone just chipped and did what ever they could.”
