The Saskatchewan Teachers Federation is saying the general public is putting an emphasis on the importance of education.
According to the survey, which interviewed under 1000 random participants, education ranked four-point-four out of five, with only health care finishing ahead of them.
President Patrick Maze says people are recognizing the budget cuts to education.
“They know that $54 Million was taken out of school divisions operating budgets, and there’s concerns and parents are aware it’s having a detrimental effect on classrooms.”
Maze says it goes to show teachers should be consulted on important topics.
“What I would take from that is that there should be effective consultation with those front-line workers; the classroom teachers, vice-principals and principals, make sure that their’s effective consultation in any decisions that are made effecting education.”
Maze also said this week’s provincial budget will be huge for STF, as teachers hope the government will be reinvesting into education.
