I was so tired of going to see my doctor for the “small things”, but recently that has all changed. I found out that just by walking through his door and booking an appointment our health care program was charged $250. Just so they could rewrite a prescription. That in my opinion is just wasteful.
They are now able to prescribe for uncomplicated urinary tract infections in females and also prescriptions for hormonal contraceptives. This alone is making for headlines.
Pharmacists now have the ability to do an assessment and as long as the patient doesn’t meet any exclusionary criteria, they can prescribe independently from a practitioner.
Pharmacists can now prescribe for:
Dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps)
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
Musculoskeletal Strains and Sprains
Oral Aphthous Ulcer (canker sore)
Superficial Bacterial Skin Infections (impetigo, folliculitis)
Tinea Corporis Infection (ringworm)
Tinea Cruris (jock itch)
Tinea Pedis (athlete’s foot)
Urinary Tract Infection (uncomplicated)
