The latest announcement regarding housing cuts has some members of Saskatchewan NDP up in arms.
The provincial government announced the suspension of the Rental Housing Supplement as of June 30th for new applicants, removing about $5 million .
NDP Critic Trent Wotherspoon said this move from the government is going to strike low earners hard.
“This defies common sense,” he said. “This lacks basic compassion.
“$459 is certainly insufficient to go out and rent and fill the fridge with basic needs.
For his part, Minister of Social Services Corporation Paul Merriman says the suspension is from high vacancy rates and low rental costs and rates to review the money invested in their social services.
