The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations Chief Bobby Cameron has announced he is seeking re-election for Chief in the upcoming election this October.
Cameron made his announcement on Friday.
According to him, there’s still plenty of work to be done.
“Some good constructive work has happened in the past, but more work to when it comes to inherent and treaty rights,” he said.
That work, Cameron said, would entail the advocation of the Governor General to meet treaty leaders on treaty lands.
Cameron, who’s been Chief since 2015, spoke about two other positions opening this fall and First and Third Vice Chief.
He also added at present moment, he’s running unopposed. However, he does expect that to change.
“Well, there’s the potential, right?” he said. “We do understand it’s anybody’s right to seek any position and we do respect their decision.”
