Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews tried to bring some positivity to Humboldt on Friday morning as the community continues to mourn the 16 people lost in the bus crash involving the SJHL’s Broncos on April 6.
Toews came to Humboldt to personally deliver game-worn jerseys from the Hawks’ game in Winnipeg against the Jets one night after the deadly crash. On that night, both teams wore jerseys that did not have the names of players on the back, but the word “BRONCOS”
Toews and the owner of the Jets, Mark Chipman, are giving those jerseys to the Broncos. All have been autographed by those wearing them.
The Winnipeg-born Toews says the events of last week have left him like many others shaken saying he can’t for one second pretend to know what it is like for anyone close to this event and what they are going through.
