Dental students at Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Regina campus were doing their part Saturday to keep mouths clean, fresh and minty.
The Dental Hygiene & Dental Assistance programs held the 7th annual Dental Day Saturday, where they offered free cleanings to those who couldn’t/can’t afford normal dental check-ups.
A student in the program and a dental assistant Jada Guest was taking part in the initiative and she said it was a great opportunity for her to inform many people about proper oral health maintenance.
“Problems start, usually in the mouth, most people don’t know that,” said Guest. “So, once your mouth starts going downhill, the rest of your body goes downhill with it.”
Guest also spoke about some of the tools and advice she and her fellow classmates and practitioners offer to patients.
“As a dental assistant, we do focus on brushing and flossing for people,” she said. “Just so they can take care of it themselves before we have to step in ourselves and do big work for them.”
