With a recent string of armed robberies in the city, Regina’s Police Chief Evan Bray said they believe some are connected.
Bray also added significant progress has been made in the investigations.
“Yeah absolutely there is a connection between some of them,” he said.
“We have made some good progress through our investigation, and in some cases we’ve made arrests, and in other cases we are well on our way to that. We’ve been able to gather some fairly significant information over the last few days,” said Bray.
Bray also said while they has been a spike of robberies as of late, overall robberies are down over the last year-and-a-half.
“We’ve been happy to report a decrease in robbery numbers over the last year-and-a-half. So what we’ve seen over the last couple of weeks is contrary to what our trend has been, obviously concerning for us,” Bray said.
In the last week and a half four armed robberies have been reported.
- Robbery in Regina’s east end under investigation by Regina Police
- Police looking for two suspects in connection to Saturday morning armed robbery of east Regina business
- Police investigate robbery report at East End business
Bray said businesses owners should also talk to their staff, and said the most important thing during a robbery is minimizing violence.
“I think when you’re talking about protecting your business and your staff there is a few fundamental things, one of the big ones is if you’re a business that deals with money on a regular basis, have a secure way of dealing with those deposits rather than just letting it build up to the end of the day,” he said.
If you have any information regarding these recent robberies you are asked to call the Regina Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
