The Official Opposition is raising some concern about the mounting lawsuits on the Regina Bypass.
In question period Tuesday, NDP Critic Buckley Belanger criticized the government for hiding the true number of land acquisition lawsuits on the project.
“He mentioned there were nine lawsuits after there weren’t any,” said Belanger. “But, Mr. Speaker, that has now ballooned to 23 lawsuits.”
Following question period’s conclusion, Minister of Highways and Infrastructure David Marit addressed those concerns, saying the government is doing what they can to settle those outstanding lawsuits.
“We’re working with the land owners, our officials are working with the land owners to evaluate and try to come to terms on a price,” he said. “And it’s no different, like in an RM, you do the same thing.”
