Grain farmers are in Ottawa this week to lobby politicians and celebrate the first National Grain Week.
Grain Growers of Canada President Jeff Nielsen, said the purpose is to push federal officials for improved grain movement legislation, expanded trade and other issues.
“It’s the ideal time to go to Ottawa and beat the doors, and engage with our federal politicians” he said.
“There are a lot of key things that are facing grain producers, of course we know in the west Bill C49, the transportation bill that is key. Overall cross country we’d like to look at problems when it comes to pesticide re-registrations,” Nielsen said.
Nielsen added grain farmers have much to celebrate, as Ottawa sets a goal of 75-billion-dollars of agri-food exports by the year 2025.
