Farmers in Saskatchewan and across the Canadian prairies are calling on Ottawa to give speedy passage to the comprehensive transportation bill, C-49.
Following amendments made to the bill in the Senate, The Transportation Modernization Act is once again back on the Parliamentary agenda.
Vice President of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture and Wynyard native Norm Hall said this is something both shippers and farmers have lobbied for.
He’s hopeful that message got through.
“I’m just going by word of mouth here,” he said. “The Transport Minister Garneau has said this bill will get passed. It’s high enough on the priority list it’s gonna get passed.”
However, Hall says until it happens, he won’t get his hopes too high.
“Nothing is a guarantee.”
Farmers have made it clear they want Bill C-49 passed before the MP’s adjourn themselves for summer holidays in June.
