I know that Toronto Blue Jays, third baseman, Josh Donaldson is referred to as the Bringer of Rain. JD is on the injured list, so I think we need to rely on Mother Nature to do what comes naturally – and its happening! RAIN, let it RAIN for a couple days.
Taking a couple of road trips this weekend, south and then north-west of the city it is easy to see just how dry it really is.
Ditches and low spots, the tree lines are holding water, but in the fields it appears as though farm friends are ready to roll.
South to Wilcox there is prep work being done. Along Highway 11, someone was “irrigating” their land. It was so windy on Saturday, whatever they were pumping was covering a wide swath! The fire that swept the Qu’Appelle Valley along the roadway is impressive in scope and shows that we must be very cautious when travelling. These fires when contained, maybe beneficial but you have to recognize the dangers that they hold.
So while the day is grey and cool, rain showers will bring those May flowers. Green grass after you’ve spent the weekend raking and digging in the winter crud that has accumulated! This is that time of year that everyone loves. The smell of fresh soil being tilled, buds, bulbs and blossoms erupting before our eyes.
The smell and visual exaltation of SPRING! Stop and take in the sensations of the season including the drumming of rain – we deserve that.
