Saskatchewan farm leaders are happy to see federal grain movement legislation has passed another barrier.
The federal ministers of Transport and Agriculture have given their support to the senate amendments to the transportation legislation.
APAS President Todd Lewis, would like to see the comprehensive legislation approved in parliament before the summer break.
He said some of the key provisions include reciprocal penalties between shippers and the railways.
“Now with the new inter-switching and with new regulations hopefully the shippers, the grain companies will have the ability to have some competition in the mix between the grain companies if one can’t pull their loads in a timely fashion the other railroad can take those loads if it’s within their designated distances,” Lewis said.
Railway service delays this winter have created major cash flow issues for producers.
