Thanks to great weather over the weekend I took full advantage of the BBQ. I had burgers Saturday for lunch and again that night at a friend’s place. A great burger is hard to get sick of, something that Don Gorske of Wisconsin can also relate too. He already has the world record for eating the most Big Mac sandwiches and this past weekend he ate his 30 thousandth Big Mac. That’s a three followed by five zeroes! He’s eaten two Big Mac’s everyday since 1972, which is the equivalent of eating 10.5 cows, yet he’s healthier than one horse!
At first I thought that was a big excessive. 30 thousand Big Mac’s? Really? But then I thought about specific foods/dishes we all enjoy and I quickly realized I eat sandwiches nearly everyday. I love sandwiches! It’s the one type of food I could eat everyday and I nearly do. Sometimes when I feel wild and crazy I make a wrap, but most of the time it’s a sandwich. Kids entertainer Fred Penner even wrote a song about how much he loved sandwiches. Mine vary from day to day. Tuna, ham and cheese, salmon, bologna, chicken, and yes, even pickled eggs sandwiches are popular choices. Although the days I bring pickled egg sandwiches to work are usually the days I end up dining alone in the staff room.
Talking to friends and co-workers about foods and specific dishes they could enjoy frequently I learned pizza, steak, and hamburgers are all high on their lists. Could they eat 30 thousand steaks in their lifetime? Doubtful. Although, I think Jamie Lewis must be approaching some sort Hawkins Cheesies record for the most eaten before 9:00 a.m..
Good food creates great memories and often great memories involve food. Whatever your favourite food is, happy eating this summer!
