There was a news story out yesterday about a group of kids on bikes swarming a vehicle while it was driving. When the driver followed the kids and stopped his vehicle, they began kicking his vehicle before taking off. Wow. Things sure have changed since I was a kid.
I admit, when I was a kid, my friends and I were “huckers.” We’d huck crab apples and eggs and just about anything else we could find at cars. We certainly didn’t want the driver of the vehicle to see what we looked like so we did our work in the shadows. We would never swarm a car that we just pelted with eggs. If we saw the driver coming back to where we were, we’d run like the wind. We never thought of standing around and kicking the vehicle afterwards. Hey, we had morals!
We never threw anything that would damage a vehicle. Rocks were definitely a no-no. So was anything else that would chip paint or crack a window. We didn’t want to damage anything. We just wanted to have a little fun.
I’m guessing these aren’t bad kids, they’re just out having what they think is a little fun, although kicking a car seems to go a little past the point of fun, not to mention the danger of swarming a moving vehicle on bikes. If something goes awry, the vehicle will always win that argument.
Back in my day, if a group of us were on bikes, it was a safe bet that we were either on our way to the store or the arcade to play some pinball!
