The amount of people with disabilities working in the Saskatchewan government has taken a hard plunge.
Since 2013, 92 less people are working in provincial government positions.
NDP Critic David Forbes spoke following Monday’s sitting of the Legislature, and said this is shocking.
“We’re concerned they’re taking a disproportionate hit in terms of austerity,” said Forbes. “These people have an awful lot to offer.”
In response, Premier Scott Moe said the government’s aggressive targets for employment of disabled workers has not been met.
He went on further to stay a nuanced and serious discussion needs to be had on how to fix this and find meaningful employment for disabled persons within the government and across Saskatchewan.
