There will be no SJHL involvement at this year’s RBC Cup. The Manitoba Junior Hockey League champion Steinbach Pistons advanced to the Canadian Junior “A” hockey championship on Monday night as they defeated the SJHL champion Nipawin Hawks 2-1 to take the ANAVET Cup in six games.
The SJHL has not had a representative at the RBC Cup since Melfort in 2015.
This was the first time since 2012 that the SJHL and MJHL competed for the ANAVET Cup. The two leagues along with the winners of the Alberta and BC Junior Hockey Leagues had met in an event called the Western Canada Cup to determine what two teams would advance, but that tournament was scrapped at the end of last season with the old format returning.
