So we as a civilized society should often know the difference between wrong and right? It’s an instinct that just kicks in and helps us through our daily lives and many of us take this reaction for granted. However it amazes me, on a daily basis, how someones basic IQ can drop so significantly in the face of what certainly is a recipe for devastation. For example, take this story I found on the Weather Network…..
Wednesday, May 16, 2018, 12:52 PM – The City of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta has received reports of paper lanterns in the sky over the weekend amid parched conditions and extreme fire ratings.
The lanterns, which are typically made of rice paper, contain a candle or wick that causes them to rise when ignited. Experts say they are incredibly dangerous and pose a threat to wildlife and the environment. Animals can become strangled in-flight by the wiring in the lantern, and the uncontrolled flame has been known to spark wildfires.
“Sadly, many people are unaware of the potentially deadly consequences the release of sky lanterns can have for wildlife and other animals,” David Bowles, from the RSPCA told the Independent in 2016.
“I think most people who saw the kind of injuries or fatalities we have would think twice. Cattle have died after bits of sky lanterns have fallen into their feed.”
The lanterns are not legal for sale or use in the city.
Under Alberta Fire Code they are not acceptable for sale or use in Alberta. At this time of extremely dry conditions, these devices are even more dangerous.”
That’s crazy……I Still cant believe anybody would do this regardless of the cause. Sure its pretty and emotional, but its also devastating. Every time I see this my stomach and mind sink with despair. So many concerns/emotions come to the forefront. For one, the environmental impact of these lanterns littering the landscape is destructive because so many birds and other wildlife consume them and become sick (releasing balloons also falls into this idiotic trend). Secondly, the safety issue alone with the drought consuming the prairies presents a tremendous increase of starting grass & forest fires.
Those responsible should be dealt with accordingly by their lack of conscious intelligent thinking.
“Then again you can’t fix stupid”.
