On the way home from work yesterday I had to make a quick stop at the drug store. There was a guy in front of me when I went to enter the store who couldn’t have been more than a few feet in front of me.
You have to go through two doors to enter the drug store, none of which the guy held open for me after he went through them. I thought that was a little rude. I’m always cognizant of the fact that someone is right behind me whenever I have to go through a door and I always hold it open for that person. Maybe it’s not a not a big deal for some people, but it is for me. I know I might sound rough and gruff on the radio, but I’m actually a very polite person when it comes to stuff like that. I always say please and thank you and I always hold a door for someone, be it a man or a woman.
After I came through the second door that wasn’t held for me, I said to the guy in front of me, “Thank you.” He wheeled around and apologized, realizing what he had, or more importantly, hadn’t done. I said “Hey, no problem. How are you doing today?” “Terrible” was his reply. Uh oh, looks like I’ve got one of “these” on my hands. Better walk away from this guy as quickly as possible. That guy had “bad vibe” written all over him.
Who knows what makes people grumpy. No matter where I go, from Shoppers to No Frills to Klein’s to any place else, the people working there always ask me how come I’m always so happy and smiling. It’s simple. I like to be upbeat and friendly to people. If anyone asks how I’m doing, you’ll never hear me reply with the word “terrible.”
And, if you’re ever behind me when I’m going through a door, I guarantee I’ll hold it open for you, and I’ll do it with a smile!
