Last week we had a pigeon emergency downtown on 12th Avenue across from 620 CKRM. Pigeons have become a bit of an issue downtown in case you haven’t noticed yet. They like to nest in small spaces in the building and proceed to crap all over the side of the building and down on to the sidewalk below. This particular incident saw a pigeon get its leg and wing caught in the screening on the side of the building meant to prevent pigeons from nesting. However, the stars were aligned for this pigeon because Regina fire and protective services just happened to be in the area doing a drill when the call came in to free this pigeon. We have a video of the rescue, so this pigeon lives another day to eat bugs, mouldy bread, and steal twist ties.
Regina isn’t the only place dealing with birds. A restaurant in Perth, Australia is dealing with seagulls. This particular restaurant is located near the ocean where seagulls like to fly and swipe food, apparently. In fact, the restaurant is now equipping their customers with water pistols to fight off the birds. In all fairness to the seagulls technically the beach is their home, they just happened to build a restaurant there that the seagulls wanted to visit. After all, even seagulls like to go out for supper occasionally after a hard week of diving for fish. The fact they’re visiting the place so often is the issue because it’s bugging customers.
Regardless of where you’re reading this, whether it be here in Regina or even in Perth, Australia watch out for those birds! It doesn’t look very good walking into work or a restaurant with bird excrement on your shoulder. Trust me, I know (long story)!
