Today will be my final day hosting Number 1’s at 1 for a while. The legend himself, Colin Lovequist, returns on Monday with another exciting line up. On today’s show we’ll feature number 1’s from today throughout the years, we’ll look at tomorrow’s number 1 songs, and we’ll look ahead to Sunday as well.
Here’s what I’ve got coming up:
George Strait climbed to the top of the country albums chart on this day in 2013 with “Love is Everything.” It was his 28th studio album. From that number album came “Give it all we Got,” which got got to number 2 that year.
We’re going to head back to 1999. That year the Dallas Stars beat the Buffalo Sabres to win the Stanley Cup in 6 games. A controversial goal made people talk about that series for years after. Also in 1999 everybody was buying the Big Mouth Billy Bass singing fish for their dens. Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was the big movie and Tim McGraw gave us a Place in the Sun. From that album came a number one for Tim on this day in 1999 titled “Please Remember Me.”
June 1st, 1991 was a momentous day for the group Diamond Rio. They got their first number 1 when “Meet in the Middle” took the top spot.
June 1st also marked Ronnie Milsap’s first ever number 1 on the country charts. He reached the top spot 44 years ago today with an Eddie Rabbitt song titled “Pure Love.”
Looking ahead at the weekend. June 2nd, 1990 Ricky Van Shelton reached number one on the Billboard Country Singles Chart with “I’ve Cried my Last Tear for You,” his 7th number 1.
June 2nd, 1958 the Everly Brothers hit number 1 with “All I have to do is Dream.”
These songs and a whole lot more starting 1 p.m. today on 620 CKRM!
